Marshalls and TJ MaxxWhile Marshalls and TJ Maxx may be known for their deals on name brand merchandise, what they may soon be known for is the community that they have going on their website. From chiming in on the latest pair of designer jeans you got, to what what’s in and what’s out, parent company TJX Companies, is utilizing social media as not only a community tool, but as a way to generate interest in their products.

To most, Marshalls and TJ Maxx means going to the store to see what ‘bargains’ they just got in. Still, TJX Companies hopes to change this by getting the customer interested in their products even before they step into the store.

Are You Part Of The Conversation?

As more and more companies continue to add social media into their marketing and PR repertoire, one of the big questions they will need to ask themselves is if “they are part of the conversation?” By this, I am referring to if they are actively engaging conversations that mention them, and if not, why.

When you were in school, if a rumor was started about you, your best chance at squashing it before it grew into something outrageous was to confront it head on and to clear the facts. In the same sense, being able to recognize conversations you are being mentioned in as well as identifying ‘potential customers,’ is what makes social media so powerful.

Since September of last year, Dave Danhi and his team have been serving up grilled cheese sandwiches to hungry patrons all over LA. Through social media, The Grilled Cheese Truck has not only attracted a huge following, but its a great example of how one company is using social media right.

Question 1: Is “Viral” Right For You?

It’s every marketers dream is to be able to get their video content to the front page of YouTube. By doing so, it’s validating all their hard work and time put into making it. If you look at the front page of YouTube, typically, the videos on it have anywhere from 50,000 views to upwards of 500,000. Even more important is that this is typically only after a few days of being released.

So how can you make your video go viral? It’s easy to say that good content is always a sure shot, but if it were that easy, why doesn’t everyone do that then? I’ve seen plenty of videos with great content, but they only have only a couple thousand views. Great content is important, but there is definitely more to it.
