Fixedia: Social Network Cum Recruitment Center

March 10th, 2010 by | No Comments

Far from the customary social networking principle of connecting you with people from within and beyond your social stratum, Fixedia fosters a much more focused audience made up of professionals working across a range of media industries. As such, you get people from traditional print media, new media, TV and radio, graphic design, film and photography, among others, doing a professional six-degree shakedown online.

From this, it becomes easy to connect with other players within the same industry, learn more about new trends in specific fields, look for potential new employers (if you’re scouring the Web for either a long-time job to commit to or a part-time/contractual gig), and, on the flipside, for companies looking into hiring suitable candidates. While the concept behind this new platform is easily comparable to LinkedIn in many regards, Fixedia offers much more than networking opportunities.

After signing up with Fixedia, you get the standard social network fare and then some. Naturally, you get a profile page you can personalize with your bio, contact lists and a showcase to show off some of your work to other users with the ability to embed image, video and audio files. Membership lets you create a blog under the Fixedia banner, grants you access to industry-specific communities and forums and even update your Twitter status.

To further develop the Fixedia platform and its array of services, a supplementary Website is also in the works called Fixfeeder. No word at the moment as to when it will go live but according to Fixedia’s press release, Fixfeeder aims to essentially be a press release repository and delivery system and offers an unlimited number of press releases every month. By doing so, this online marketing tool allows companies to reach their targeted audience with the appropriate news and tweets while giving media professionals a chance to directly communicate with the companies who distribute the releases.

“Many industries have their own social networking site but we wanted to create a site which does more than what’s on offer now” says Suki Johal, Managing Director of Fixedia. “Users will be able to meet and learn from the experts in their field and get highly specific information that interests them.”

This week, the site unveiled Fixedia Unlimited , another crucial component to the multifaceted Fixedia platform which offers a low-cost avenue for media companies to raise their profile within the industry, conduct research and recruit professionals within the Fixedia network. Under this, companies will also be able to showcase their portfolio, publish their client list and link their employee’s Fixedia profiles to their dedicated company page. Registered publishers and content producers will also be able to network with potential sponsors, advertisers and ad fund partners.

Originally launched in February this year, Fixedia was created by the London-based startup Fixedia Group. The site has since attracted professionals from more than 130 countries worldwide with the US and Europe, as of writing, proving to be its biggest markets while Asia and the Middle East users as its early adopters. Naturally, in this day and age of quick distribution of information, Fixedia has also set up shop within other platforms. To get more news and updates, welcome them into your Twitter stream or simply join their Facebook fan page.
