Instagram Doubles Its Ad Stats in 6 Months with Over 1 Million Advertisers

It’s been a year and a half since Instagram rolled out the red carpet to all advertisers, and the photo- and video-sharing app has now over 1 million monthly active ad users. That’s five times as many advertisers as the app claimed more than a year ago, and twice as many as it had six months ago.

It probably helps that Instagram has been able to prove its worth not only as a viable advertising channel to marketers, but also as a means for customers to contact and engage with their favorite brands.

Over 80% of the 600 million individuals who use Instagram per month follow a brand. In the past month, over 120 million users, or roughly 20 percent of its audience, have used Instagram to visit a brand’s website, get directions, or contact them. The rising number of using Instagram like it’s this decade’s yellow pages is reinforced by the app’s business-specific accounts. Last year, the app launched business profiles, that among other things, allowed users to push a button that allowed them to contact the business, as well as an option for brands to buy ads within the app.

Nearly nine months later, eight million companies have converted their accounts to the app’s version of Facebook’s business pages. As Instagram’s advertiser bases continues to rise, the app is continuously adding more ways that users can communicate with businesses. According to Instagram, it will soon be adding a way for users to book more services, such as scheduling a haircut through a business’s Instagram profile.
