Letting Your Brand Make the Most Out of Instagram’s New Tagging Feature

May 7th, 2013 by | 3 Comments

Just the other day, Instagram added a new feature called “Photos of You“, which lets you tag people in the photos you share via their app. Similar to what Facebook’s tagging feature does, this update from Instagram now allows users and brands to further engage their followers.

On the “old” version of Instagram, you could only repost or “regram” tagged pictures by your followers after they mention your username in the comments section of their photos. You could then either share their link or take a screenshot to share the image on your official feed. You could also search for specific hashtags or topics to find images that relate to your brand or products.

With the new Instagram update, however, you can now easily display images you’ve been tagged in on your homepage. Aside from giving you a better way to showcase fan photos, it also helps you find pictures about your brand and comment on them more easily. This can help your Instagram page increase its traffic and followers, and also encourages better fan engagement.

Increased fan engagement leads to more Instagram followers and better brand exposure, so remember to make the most out of the new feature and return the favor. Tag fans in your photos, display their pictures on your profile, and comment or say thank you to show how much you appreciate their interest and continued patronage.

Because the tagging feature on Instagram is still fresh out of development, you can expect that people will soon think of different and creative ways to use it. In the meantime, you can engage fans and encourage them to use “Photos of You” by asking them to tag you in their pictures. A great way to do this is by hosting a contest that asks them to tag or add you in new or previously posted images that feature or relate to your brand.
