Twitter’s integration with Google brings welcome news now that tweets are searchable both on mobile and desktop. If your Twitter account hasn’t been active in the last few months, now is the time to breathe new life into it so you don’t miss out on opportunities that can boost online visibility as well as web traffic for your business.

But before you start tweeting about the latest in your brand, here are a few things to bear in mind so you can take full advantage of the Twitter-Google partnership:

Tweet Often, and Tweet a Lot

An ongoing social presence on Twitter won’t only help with engagement rates, but also give Google more content to index. Remember: the partnership now allows Google to index Twitter data in real time. This means that the more you Tweet, the more likely your brand may appear on Google when someone runs a search about your Twitter account.

Incorporate Hashtags

It’s not only your Twitter handle that’s searchable. Users can also type in hashtagged terms to find relevant tweets on Google. This isn’t something new, but the integration adds a significant change to it by displaying related tweets in carousel format immediately on top of search results, enhancing discoverability for brands. Be sure to use trending hashtags, if applicable, to include your tweets among popular hashtag searches.

Note that the carousel displays the most recent tweets in hashtag searches, while older posts are displayed in the regular list format, thus highlighting the importance of tweeting often.

Capitalize on Current Events

Newsjacking gives you more opportunities to leverage trending hashtags so you can boost the visibility of your tweets. But always take caution and think things through before using a news event to market your brand. Choose news items that are relevant to your brand or industry, and be sure to practice sensitivity when it comes to tragic events.
