Facebook recently launched a free mobile app called ‘Rooms’ allowing users to set up anonymous chat rooms for shared interests. The chat rooms are only for invite and accessible through a special code scanned by the phone’s camera.

Tumblr Bets on Video, Updates Its Player with New Features (Mashable.com)

With video posts growing more in popularity on Tumblr, the company recently gave its built-in video player a series of improvements to enhance user experience. Some of the updates include infinite looping, HD quality and auto play options, and the ability to drag videos to the side so that they stay visible while users scroll down for new content.

Twitter acquires Twitpic’s photo archive to keep it alive (TheNextWeb.com)

Twitter has acquired Twitpic’s domain and photo archive so that users can still access their old pictures despite the app shutting down. Twitpic had already announced last September that it was discontinuing service before announcing again that a potential investor could save it. It finally shut down on October 25 due to lack of interest.

YouTube Considers Paid, Ad-Free Subscriptions (WSJ.com)

YouTube is currently considering a paid, ad-free subscription version that lets users watch videos without ads, which had been the website’s main source of revenue. This option will exist alongside the current ad-supported version to give users more choices on how to watch videos.
