SEO for Video Content

Since the popularity of the Flip Camera and other digital devices have made it easier to create digital media, the popular video trend is becoming more of a social media campaign focus than it was before. In addition to the actual content produced, it is a good idea to also consider search engine optimization (SEO) and improve searchability for the videos.
Here are five considerations.

1. Optimize the video with keywords. Similar to text content, video SEO involves optimizing with relevant keywords for search engines and user experience. Use targeted keywords in the file name, title, tags, URL and linking text. Also be sure to add a paragraph of keyword optimized text with a relevant description of the video content.

2. Use video-sharing sites for distribution. Post videos on your own Website, Facebook page and other social networks, but also add it to video-sharing sites, which can be effective tools for creating visibility and inbound links. Be sure to optimize for keywords when submitting to the sites and use a distribution service (TubeMogul) to deploy videos to top sharing sites

3. Execute a linking strategy. Building internal and external links will help with SEO (just like regular SEO rules). Ways to accomplish this can include cross-linking to other videos, linking to videos from relevant web pages, linking to videos in blog posts, posting the video link on Twitter/Facebook and bookmarking the video.

4. Encourage sharing. If your content is good enough, users will generally share. And they are even more likely to do it if you encourage them and ask them to comment. Also, if it is easy to share via email, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, it will break down any barriers to resistance. It will also help to offer multiple video formats based on platform and connectivity.

5. Re-purpose videos. Get creative and use the video content in more than one way. Think about embedding video posts, creating more than one clip from a longer clip, transcribe the video and post, add screenshots of the content to photo-sharing or slideshow-sharing sites.
