And indeed they should be, both these campaigns have resonated well with their respective demographics and embodied the hilarity that inhabits Internet pop culture. Now, the latest video off Blendtec’s Will It Blend series has dropped, spoofing Old Spice’s The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.

While most forward-facing brands are jumping into social media marketing, some older, more recognized brands are still reluctant to give in. They see it as an unnecessary online strategy that doesn’t guarantee quick ROI.

Truth is, they do have a point, because, after all, they’ve gained international resonance and a huge chunk of their respective markets through traditional marketing and advertising platforms. But really, if the social Web seem dubious to your brand, keep in mind that it also offers far greater benefits as well as handling your reputation.

Blending viral campaign into social media

It’s been four years since Blendtec founder and CEO Tom Dickson began shooting the Will It Blend? video series as part of promoting his company’s industrial blenders. For the uninitiated, the videos showed Dickson throwing in everyday items like a crowbar, a rake handle, a pair of sneakers and, alarmingly enough, a number of rather expensive consumer electronics into a blender and demolishing them to steaming piles of dust. The recent victim to have fallen into the Blendtec blender of doom is the iPhone 4.
