More on Running Twitter-based Contests

One of the major benefits of running a contest on Twitter is that it’s a quick and easy way to distribute links, which, of course, drives considerable traffic to your site. This also grows your message dissemination exponentially if you’ve also required interested people to join your roster of followers and / or retweet your contest tweet, since doing either only takes about a single click of the Follow or Retweet. This, of course, depends on how attractive the prize is or how well you’ve executed the game.

Social Gaming Means Major Opportunities for Advertisers

Last fall, Project Natal rocked the tech and gaming communities as the most truly interactive gaming platform to date. With face recognition and individualized responses, it blurred the line between single and co-op game play with its sophisticated AI. But gamers know that this combination game play is nothing new; services like Xbox Live the PlayStation Network and massively multiplayer online games like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI bring other players into games remotely and allow a player to communicate with them in real time. Often years ahead of tech trends and with a finger on the pulse of consumer behavior, the gaming industry has also come to act as a trailblazer for marketers looking to make a splash in non-traditional media.

MySpace Revamps Gaming, Intros iPhone App

If the blitzkrieg-esque popularity of Zynga gaming titles like Farmville and Mafia Wars are any indication, gaming on a social networking platform seems like a win-win formula for users, developers and the platform itself. Joining the scene this week is long-time social networking site MySpace as they introduce a revitalized MySpace Games in the midst of the festivities surrounding this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC 2010) in San Francisco, Ca.

MySpace was once the dominant social networking site, easily beating out competition Friendster when it was launched in 2003. Since then, MySpace has catered to a barrage of younger users ranging from the common social-seeker and consumer in search of entertaining contents online, to content creators like musicians and stand up comics looking for a venue to showcase their wares. Currently, it has been designated as a second stringer to the likes of Facebook though still heavily credited as a music discovery platform.

When Gaming Turns Social

The growth and success of Facebook is undeniable. The social part of this network (which some would call exhibitionism, including me) is so vast, deep and complex that very few people are escaping the site. Everyone you meet has a profile, knows how to use it, uploads pictures, shares interesting links, takes quizzes, send messages and play games, to name a few.

The playing games is the part that interests me the most. When I look at my Facebook stream, I see people that have never own a video gaming console, that have never even touched a joystick, that were already old by the time the Commodore 64 came out, now enjoying their free time with some good “Bejeweled” or “Word Challenge.” This was puzzling to me. Now, after doing some thinking I realize that when you put together Gaming, plus Competition, plus Social, you get a killer combo! Let’s break it down:
