Take Time to Make Time for Social Media

No time, there’s never any time! I’ll never get into Stanford…

OK, pardon the Saved By the Bell reference (Jessie really should have laid off the caffeine pills). In short, time is a precious commodity, and I hate to break it to you, but there are only so many hours in the day.  This means that it’s going to take time to make time for Social Media.  The end goal should be for you to have someone or several someone(s) who are responsible for managing your own Social Media presence (in house is the way to go as a long term solution – YOU know your brand better than any outside consultant ever will) (more…)

Let me be the last to welcome you into the 21st century. In this day and age, where do you think you’re customers are going first to learn about you, your business, and your product? Yep, you guessed it – the Internet.

We’re living in an era where the old school sales process is nearing extinction, and your customers are becoming smarter than ever. They’re Googling, chatting with their friend on Twitter, and reading Yelp reviews before they even CONSIDER giving you any business.

I’ve been meeting with a lot of small business owners, non-profit organizations, and entrepreneurs over the last several months – talking to them about how they can soundly establish their web presence, monitor their brand awareness, and get involved in their customer’s conversations.

It sounds exciting – it sounds sexy – It pretty much sounds like a no brainer, right? Who wouldn’t want to climb aboard this bandwagon of Social Media? All the cool kids are doing it. And what better way to directly connect and talk to your clients and customers? (more…)

What does “New Media” mean to you? Where do you see Social Media, Blogging, and the Web 2.0 world heading next? For me, “New Media” is about allowing anyone and everyone to create this media themselves, encouraging creativity, and providing low barriers of entry (so everyone – regardless of tech-know-how – can participate).

Recently I launched a project called “The Epiphany Moment ” – what took several months together has resulted in something that truly defines what “New Media” means to me. Every element of this was 100% crowd-sourced – individuals submitted their own videos to be a part of this, which were then edited and set to original music – all of which was done at zero cost.

If you think about it – it’s extremely easy to lump Social Media and blogging into one simple idea: WRITING. And while it may start there – while building connections, connecting with consumers, and building relationships may be inspired by written words, it goes much further beyond that. The most effective Social Media strategy is to “hit” your community from multiple angles, using multiple mediums. Here are a few things you should be considering (if you’re not already implementing)

Recently I wrote a blog post reviewing David Meerman Scott’s “New Rules of Marketing and PR” – in it, David implores his readers that every company can find value in this world of Social Media and that EVERY SINGLE COMPANY, without question, should be tapping into the online community to enhance the buyer experience.

The post brought up an interesting debate and throughout, we kept getting caught up in the semantics of the term “Social Media”. What does it mean? What does it encompass? Why should every company be using it?

Why Everyone (Even You) Needs to be on Twitter

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Twitter has taken the world over by storm – it’s amazing to think that even a year ago, many of us barely knew it existed and since then, its use has spread like wildfire.

But what I’ve come to find is while there are MANY people using it, there are even more who still think it’s stupid – who don’t understand that this little service that goes so far as to limit the amount you can say – can be such a vital tool for anyone and everyone. Here are four reasons why everyone (yes, even you) should climb aboard the Twitter bandwagon.
