Tumblr has become one of the most popular sites today, with millions of users around the world logging in to view what’s new, and sharing interesting content with their friends everyday. Naturally, when social media applications rise to fame and open up their APIs, social media marketing professionals, and third party developers are sure to follow. Because of its straightforward interface and social engagement capabilities, many brands have incorporated it to their online marketing strategies.

And to make it easier and more efficient to use the social media site, many have developed utilities like Chrome extensions for enhancing Tumblr use. Today, we’re looking at two Web services to better scan and consumer multimedia content on the site, Tumvie and Trntbl.

Tumvie Neue

Using social media tool Tumvie to browse through images on Tumblr

Tumvie Neue is a simple photo browser for Tumblr, enabling people to view all the images posted by a specific Tumblr user in one Web interface. The original Tumvie was created in 2008 which was a widely used site until it went offline in 2010. The current version, carrying “neue” in its nomenclature was developed in homage to the first iteration and its very useful interface.

The Tumview Neue interface is pretty intuitive; and you start by typing in a specific Tumblr username. Hitting the “Show the Photos” will direct you to a page with a two-panel layout. The left panel is a gallery of all the images in grid view, and clicking on each photo will generate a full-sized view on the right panel. All the images viewed on the right panel will be kept there so you easily scroll through the photos you’ve already viewed. You can clear the panel by clicking on the Remove Images link at the top of the page, or hitting the R button on your keyboard.

Trntbl.Me

Using social media service Trntbl for better Tumblr

Audio is among many other content types that can be posted and reblogged on Tumblr, making it easy for brands to share independent music tracks, podcasts, and other audio content with their followers on the site. Originally created for when its developer Alex Beaudet forgets his iPod at home, Trntbl is a Web service that turns any Tumblr profile into a playlist, complete with an audio player and track browsing.

Trntbl won’t require any sign ups, but will ask for a specific Tumblr username; you can view your own or other people’s music. After typing one and hitting Enter, you will be taken to the Trntbl interface where the service has scraped off all the audio tracks posted and reblogged by the user, and lines them up for better queuing. The layout is very idiot-proof, with just a list of tracks populating a majority of the browser, and the bottom part relegated to carry the music player. Aside from your customary Play/Pause, Back and Rewind player features, you can also play tracks at random, go to the Tumblr page where a particular track is posted, or reblog tracks.
