Having lots of followers and interacting with them on a daily basis are a good start for your business’s Twitter account. However, to get the most out of your marketing strategy, it’s also important to make sure that every post encourages an action. Retweets are one of them.

A retweet is your followers’ way of echoing your posts. Whether it’s a link to a new product or an image from that big event your company is hosting, retweets pull whatever you post into the greater twitterverse and provide your brand with greater exposure.

But simply posting anything you want may not be the best way to inspire retweets from your followers. To encourage this action, you can:

Make Sure Your Post is Retweetable

First and foremost, make sure that your tweets aren’t a chore to retweet. Leave room for @RT by limiting your post to 71-100 characters. Besides, if your tweets are too long, you’re using the wrong social media platform.

Ask for a Retweet or an RT

According to some studies, politely asking users to “please RT” yields a 51% retweet rate. Just make sure not to sound like you’re begging! Make it sound as natural as possible.

Always Post Something New, and In an Interesting Way

Being too consistent with the type of tweets you make can be boring for some users, that’s why it’s important to keep them guessing. Instead of sticking to the usual “Check out our new product” tweets, why not post a funny image? Or a short video clip?

Let It Be About Them

Despite the fact that you created the account to promote your brand, constantly talking about it can be a roadblock to your goals. Make it a little bit more about your customers and see the difference.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to reap the fruits of better exposure for your brand in the twitterverse.

This is a great post. The other day one of our interns said, why are you not using hashtags? Totally slipped the mind of our social media manager, duh. Nice post. I really like the new Twitter Vine loop video thing. Have you seen that?
