I was taking a course with a mentor and one on the exercises was on setting goals and business purposes and all that other fun stuff a twenty-something entrepreneur wants to hear and do.
One question that he said really impacted my business and how I deal with creating content, social media and really, business in general. That question is:
(input your name here), What are you the best in the world at?
Man, that’s a tough one. What am I the best in the world at? I don’t know, checking Twitter and GMail the fastest? Watching Entourage marathons?
All joking aside, this question can really change your business, if you have the right answer. You see if you know that you are the best in the world at something it becomes really easy to provide true value to your fans, customers or clients. You are the best, so the information you are able to deliver has the ability to affect lives, changes buying decisions and make people better at whatever it is that you do.
How Does This Apply To Social Media?
That’s actually easy. Through social media you now have the platform from which you can share your knowledge with the world. You can teach, you can help and you can engage with those that are looking for your expertise.
The tools that are now at your exposure bring you into center stage, with the entire planet as your audience. And Google loves this stuff so much that they will send you people (for free) to your website when they are looking for the things you are talking about.
Yes, I know it’s a little more complicated than that, but really this social media stuff is kinda easy.
If you are a local real estate agency, and you are the best in the world at selling houses in a specific neighborhood, can’t you:
- talk about the local market
- give people tips to buying homes in a certain neighborhood
- showcase great neighborhood amenities like parks, pools and shopping areas
- can you use video, pictures, text and Podcasts to share your messages
- can you answer questions form first time home buyers
What if you are the local barber, and you are the best in the world at giving 20 minute haircuts with the best high top fades in the world, couldn’t you:
- share pictures of all the people that come in and out of your shop
- give video lessons on what makes a good fade
- share “shop talk” with your Facebook community
- do live feeds via uStream and get people into the environment of the best high top fade shop in the land
Again, you need to come together with your team, with your current and past customers and find out what makes your business, your blog, your services, your products – the best in the world!
Once you do that, the social media stuff is easy. It’s just sharing what you know, engaging and bringing people into the awesome culture that you have created. So my question to you today is, what are you the best in the world at?
If I get enough cool responses I’ll share my answer as well!
