
Twitter has taken the world over by storm – it’s amazing to think that even a year ago, many of us barely knew it existed and since then, its use has spread like wildfire.
But what I’ve come to find is while there are MANY people using it, there are even more who still think it’s stupid – who don’t understand that this little service that goes so far as to limit the amount you can say – can be such a vital tool for anyone and everyone. Here are four reasons why everyone (yes, even you) should climb aboard the Twitter bandwagon.
Friendship
At the core, Twitter is all about making connections and meeting new people – which naturally should lead to making friends and building relationships. Twitter can be the perfect lead in – a first step in starting a beautiful relationship. If for no other reason, everyone should consider joining Twitter as a tool to make new friends in their area and all over the world.
Inspiration
Maybe you’re a writer or a blogger. If you are, and you’re not on Twitter, you’re really missing out a network full of forward thinking and inspired individuals. When you put yourself out there and align with other people across the web, you open up the potential for an excellent resource of writing inspiration. Have a question that needs an answer? Ask it on Twitter. Want to brainstorm a topic idea? Throw it out to your followers and see what they have to say. Looking for a job? Twitter is a great place to network with the “right” people – you know the ones that can help you get your foot in the door. I see job opportunities pass through my Twitter feed daily, which means that the opportunities out there, and are easier to find by the ones who are really paying attention. If you’re looking for work and you’re not on Twitter – seriously, what are you waiting for?
Sweet Deals
With emerging technologies like Yelp and Foursquare, the service industry is finding new and unique ways to promote their businesses and reward customers for their patronage. Twitter goes right in line, constantly offering savings and deals to tweeters everywhere. You can’t beat saving a little cash.
Regardless of your background or industry – there’s something to be had in those 140 characters. Put yourself out there, get involved in some conversations, and use Twitter for the outstanding resource of information, collaboration, and conversation that it is.
